The Bible provides many examples of Christ putting the gospel into practice. Matthew 9:35 provides one such example. “Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people (emphasis supplied). This is medical missionary work and Jesus is the great Medical Missionary! In Matthew 28, we are admonished to follow His example by teaching, baptizing, and making disciples of all men.

Early in the 20th century, the prophetess Ellen G. White wrote, “We have come to a time when every member of the church should take hold of the medical missionary work (Testimonies, volume 6, page 289). She further says, “Nothing will open doors for the truth like evangelistic medical missionary work (Evangelism, page 513). The College of Gospel Medical Missionaries exists to facilitate the training of men and women of all ages in this life-changing, soul-saving work and to launch them into the world with the good news of the gospel.

Two levels of training are offered: Level I and Level II.

The 10-day Level I Training has been designed to be a balanced and comprehensive study of God’s health message and emphasizes the role of the health message in pointing men and women to Jesus Christ. It also encourages trainees to evaluate their own lifestyle practices and to make positive change. A broad range of theoretical and practical classes are offered including The Bible and Health, Prophetic Guidance, God’s Eight Laws of Health, An Introduction to Natural Remedies, an overview of common chronic diseases, cooking schools, massage, and An Introduction to Herbs.

The Level II Training is more hands-on and allows trainees to develop some of the skills needed for use in homes, and lifestyle centers. Courses include Daniel & Revelation, Urban Evangelism, City Gardening, and Hydrotherapy. Level I certification is a prerequisite for Level II training.

At each level, trainees have the opportunity to become certified gospel medical missionaries. While this certification is not offered in conjunction with an accredited educational institution, it does signify that the trainee has completed additional work to increase the knowledge base and improve skills, opening the door for a more effective ministry.

In the book, Medical Ministry (page 317), Ellen G. White says, “We shall see the medical missionary work broadening and deepening at every point of its progress, because of the inflowing of hundreds and thousands of streams, until the whole earth is covered as the waters cover the sea”. The College of Gospel Medical Missionaries is committed to fulfilling this prophecy.
